A developer working on Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has promised players that the team intentionally polished the sniper rifles in the recent alpha test “to assess their performance,” adding that snipers “WILL HAVE balance changes” when the next beta goes live.
“Okay, let’s talk about snipers in the Cold War,” Treyarch’s Tony Flame said on Twitter over the weekend (thanks, VG24 / 7). “Crossplay is coming, but we knew it wouldn’t be in Alpha. We upgraded snipers to assess their performance in this Alpha specifically. Sniper rifles WILL HAVE balance changes for the next Beta based on our analytics this end of week”.
Ok, let’s talk snipers in the Cold War. Crossover play is coming, but we knew it wouldn’t be in Alpha. We upgrade snipers to assess their performance in this Alpha specifically. Sniper Rifles WILL HAVE balance changes for the next Beta based on our analytics data this weekend.September 18, 2020
The tweet comes after gamers flocked to social media to complain about fast snipers dominating the game for most alphas.
Flame also confirmed that the settings to turn off motion blur, which is currently reset after every match, must also be addressed for the beta version, which will be open to players on all platforms.
Treyarch and Raven Software announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha would take place exclusively on PS4 this weekend. The news was announced in the PS5 storefront aired earlier this week, which also gave us our first look at the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign game.
If the alpha really worked up your appetite and you can’t get enough of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War right now, check out our recent Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer practice in which Leon was able to test a variety of maps and modes to get an idea of what these new Call of Duty maps bring.
“Scale is the main thing, with larger spaces suggesting that the more open layout of Battle Royale has been introduced into the new levels,” said Leon, before showing us all the maps we’ve seen so far. “That is balanced with more objective-based modes that support an emphasis on zone control or VIP protection. We will have to wait to see more obviously to get a better idea of the full offering.”
