Nvidia’s high-end trio GPU RTX they’re on the way, and we may have gotten our first reliable look at the upcoming GeForce RTX 30 series (aka Ampere) specs.
If new information through Videocardz Ahead of Nvidia’s Sept. 1 event, it’s to be believed that the new cards will debut with 2nd-gen ray tracing cores and 3rd-gen Tensor cores.
The Videocardz report claims that Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3090, GeForce RTX 3080 and GeForce RTX 3070 will be officially announced at that Nvidia event next Tuesday. Out of the trio, the RTX 3080 and 3090 will hit retail shelves first in mid-September, according to the publication’s sources.
Among some of the information in this treasure trove of rumors are juicy new specs: The GeForce RTX 3080 is estimated to arrive with 4,352 CUDA cores and 10GB of GDDR6X memory, while the 3090 appears to be offering GA102-300 silicon for a whopping $ 10. 5,248 cores and 24GB of GDDR6X memory with a 384-bit memory interface.
However, it should be noted that while the custom models will require two 8-pin PCIe power connectors, the Founders Editions will only need one 12-pin PCIe connector. Of course, you will pay more for this convenience.
There is no information yet on the CUDA cores in the RTX 3070, but it will supposedly come with 8GB of GDDR6X memory. That card could debut late next month, so we may have to wait a bit longer than the other two cards for additional details. Regarding the speed of the memory chip, Videocardz estimates that the RTX 3070 could potentially reach 16 Gbps.
However, there is more to the story: the A100 from the Ampere series used TSMC’s 7nm FinFET process node, and Videocardz claims that the same 7nm node will be implemented in consumer graphics cards in the near future. Unfortunately, there has not yet been an independent confirmation of these claims. However, if this is the case, the consumer-grade Ampere will likely debut with the lively PCIe 4.0 interface, as well as native support for HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4a outputs.
Recent regulatory filings from South Korea suggested that there might be an imminent release for the new version of Nvidia, and that it was potentially scheduled for September 1. So far, there have been very few details about the new enthusiast GPUs, so these new specs are certainly something new to look at. We’re still very much in the dark about the naming scheme, whether the RTX series will have the ability to offer ray tracing in UHD without sacrificing frame rate, and many other details.
Nvidia September 1 Event Starts at noon EDT / 9 am PDT. We’ll cover the news in full detail, so stay tuned for the latest news on upcoming graphics chips from Nvidia.
