Now is not the time to buy the new iPhone 12 – wait two months

Apple has introduced four new iPhone 12 models, and with the arrival of the latest series of flagship phones comes the inevitable price drop from last year’s models.

That means if you’ve always wanted to buy an iPhone 11, the wait will have finally been worth it now at a huge discount.

However, if you’re more tempted by the 5G generation of iPhone 12 models, you’d better wait a bit longer. This is because most flagship phones experience a significant price drop a few weeks after launch.

The price tracking above has shown that with iPhones, as with other major phones, it makes sense to wait a few weeks before buying a newly launched model.

According to the European price monitoring service Idealo, the price of new iPhone models falls on average by 8% in the first two months after their launch. After four months, the average drop was 14%.

This would save around US $ 150 (RM624) on the more expensive 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max, starting at US $ 1,099 (RM4,569).

However, don’t expect to see massive discounts before January, and the new iPhones are expected to stay close to their full price in the first few weeks after launch between October 23 and November 13.

Of course, you’ll spend even less if you buy any model’s predecessor soon after a new version is released, which arrives once a year for most smartphone brands. The iPhone launched a year ago costs 24% less on average, according to figures from Idealo.

However, experts agree that you shouldn’t upgrade your iPhone just to get 5G. In 2020, more than a year after 5G became a main feature of premium phones, finding a signal is still difficult in most cities.

And yet, carriers around the world are expected to expand their coverage considerably in the coming months and years, and the iPhone 11 has the potential to fall behind when a signal arrives near you.

Even though 5G expansion is only moving slowly in most countries, if you are already looking for a smartphone, you should consider a 5G phone, especially if you need a new one anyway. – dpa
