Nintendo’s popular Mario Kart game franchise is a spinoff of the Super Mario series and dates back a long time when it was first released in 1992 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The game has seen generations of players fight together over the years for sheer fun, in fact it’s nostalgia personified in every way. The game has evolved over the last decade, becoming a staple for both game consoles and mobile device users. So what would have been Nintendo’s next big leap?
Bring the game environment to the real world in a mixed reality experience that will see you and your friends vying for supremacy in the cozy confines of your home this holiday season. Yes, that’s true as it can turn your living room into a racetrack for the most exciting entertainment because watching Netflix is so common. Nintendo calls it Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which fuses classic kart racing in the real world with an augmented reality environment. It’s actually a two-part acquisition: one you have to download the game from the Nintendo Switch eShop that solves the game interface bit, and the other is a $ 99.99 RC kart (with Mario or Luigi) and a stack of 4 cardboard doors that shape the race track in any space in your home. These cards are the control points of the race track and the kart needs to go through them, until the last one to register a complete lap. The turns and straights of the track are left for your creative building, using things like sofas, tables, children’s toys, or coffee cups, for example, to create the race track in a space as small as 15 x 15 feet.
The kart has an onboard camera for live streaming from your Nintendo Switch to get the racing action up close. Mixed with the elements of augmented reality, the experience promises countless hours of fun with up to three other players. The only requirement is that each player must have a separate Switch to participate in live races with each other. The idea is purely fun and resonates with everyone who is stuck inside and loves a sense of adventure. Of course, there are things like your grumpy cat (who doesn’t like things that move on wheels) to consider, which brings an unexpected twist to the racing environment. Nintendo has done well and the prospect of being creative indoors in such a volatile outdoor environment will keep you hooked for hours.
