The event is hailed by many as an important milestone that could change the face of the Ethiopian education system for years to come. The efforts that led to the success of this initiative were driven by the community, says Dr. Teshale of the University of Wollega. “The candidates played a very important role in the initiative, finding the success it had with the help of the community, but it was the effort of the university to organize and support the candidates by all means, it was the main engine behind the success of The initiative”.

The initiative had the support of sister universities across the country. “We had cooperation with sister universities across the country. We had the support of the ministry of higher education and science and other interested parties and individuals, ”said Dr. Teshale, adding that“ it is a great honor that the University of Wollega was the leading institute that saw the realization of this long awaited dream ”. He spoke about the hope that the University of Wollega will become the leading institute in the development of Afan Oromo and a world-class educational center.

Wollega University President Dr. Hasan Yusuf, in his post announcing the breakthrough, said that despite its popularity, the Afaan Oromo language has been largely absent from academia. “‘[History] has changed here at the University of Wollega. It is a historic achievement for both the Afaan Oromo language and the University of Wollega. We are going to celebrate it in a great event ”. Addis Standard attempts to speak to recent graduates were unsuccessful due to tight schedules.
