Addis Ababa, 16/20 April 2020 – A team of 12-member Chinese medical experts, invited by the Ethiopian government and sent by the Chinese government, are expected to arrive in Ethiopia today.
The team is made up of experts in respiratory diseases, public health, nursing and traditional Chinese medicine and will help their Ethiopian counterparts to help contain the spread of COVID-19 in Ethiopia. They are selected by the Sichuan provincial health committee, the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia said in a statement sent to the state-affiliated FBC. “It is a comprehensive demonstration of solidarity, with the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity, presented by Chinese President Xi Jinping, and an epitome of the Association for Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation between China and Ethiopia,” the statement said. .
The 12 members of the expert team are the first that China has sent to Africa since the outbreak of COVID-19. They are drawn from West China University Sichuan Hospital, Sichuan CDC, Sichuan Province People’s Hospital, Southwest Medical University Affiliated Hospital and Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine University, according to the statement from the Chinese embassy.
