He also quoted the speaker as saying that the solution to any problem must come through dialogue and in a legal manner, not breaking the law.
The news comes after the regional state of Tigray, the TPLF government, said on September 29 that the regional state was withdrawing all its representatives from the HoPR and the Federation Chamber after October 5, considering that the region did not she was willing to be part of an “illegitimate government.”
The regional state has unilaterally held the sixth election for the regional council, which was subsequently formed on September 24. The newly formed council also appointed TPLF president Debretsion Gebremichael (PhD) as regional president.
On October 5, President Sahle-Work Zewde announced the new start of the incumbent’s governing mandate, after its extension was recommended by the Constitutional Research Council and approved by the Federation Chamber. The president, in her speech delivered at the joint session of the HoPR and the House of Federation (HoF), kicked off the incumbent’s mandate by outlining key policy areas for the 2020/2021 fiscal year.
All but one of the 38 TPLF representatives at HoPR and the eight representatives at HoF were absent from the joint session.
The following day, October 6, the HoF approved the federal government’s decision to sever ties with the regional state Tigray Council and the TPLF executive body; He also said that the federal government will limit its working relationships only with the regional administrations of the city and Kebele. The HoF also approved an additional measure on October 7 to suspend the subsidy from the federal budget.
