KAMPALA – The new US ambassador to Uganda, Natalie E. Brown, arrived in Kampala on Sunday night to assume Washington’s diplomatic post in Kampala.
Ambassador Brown, who began her mandatory 14-day home quarantine, replaces Doborah Malac, whose tour of duty ended earlier this year.
“I am delighted to be in Uganda. I look forward to meeting Uganda and its people and expanding the strong partnership between the United States and Uganda. I can’t wait to meet you and learn more about your country and your aspirations! But first, I am going to complete a 14-day home quarantine in accordance with CDC recommendations and local best practices, ”Ambassador Brown said in brief comments to reporters upon arrival in Kampala.
The new ambassador was confirmed by the Senate as the United States Ambassador to Uganda on August 6, 2020.
She previously served as the Chief of Mission for the United States Embassy in Asmara, Eritrea, from 2016 to 2019.
Other senior leadership positions include Deputy Permanent Representative and Deputy Chief of Mission of the United States Mission to the UN Agencies in Rome, Italy, from 2013 to 2016, where she was elected to represent North America on the Committee of Finance of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. The United Nations.
Ambassador Brown also served as deputy chief of mission for the United States embassy in Tunis, Tunisia, from 2010 to 2013, when that country transitioned from dictatorship to democracy.
Throughout her career, Ambassador Brown has accumulated experience in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy with a geographic focus on Africa and the Middle East.
Ambassador Brown’s previous assignments include service as Economic Counselor to the United States Embassy in Amman, Jordan and as Political Chief of the United States Embassy in Kuwait City, Kuwait.
In Washington, he served twice in the Operations Center of the State Department’s Executive Secretariat, including as Senior Oversight Officer on September 11, and as International Affairs Officer in the UN Office of Political Affairs at the Office. of Affairs of International Organizations.
Even earlier, he was the State Department office officer for Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger in the Office of West African Affairs. He also had overseas assignments at the US Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and at the US Embassy in Conakry, Guinea.
Ambassador Brown earned her BA from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and her MA from the U.S. Marine Corps School of Command and Staff. She is an alumnus of the International Career Promotion Program and was the first participant. from the Department of State in the International Women’s Forum Leadership Foundation Scholarship Program. Ambassador Brown speaks French and Arabic and has studied Italian, German, Amharic, and Tigrinya.
