Apple’s next AirPods 3 are anticipated to receive a significant price increase, and now new information has revealed the exciting next-gen AirPods Pro that may well cost even more.
Mysterious Apple insider ‘Mr White’, who accurately leaked the iPhone 12 chassis redesign and redesigned Pro cameras, has snapped images of the internal hardware for Apple’s next-gen AirPods Pro, and it looks like a major redesign. is on the way.
The images (below) show the AirPods Pro’s internal hardware, one of which is noticeably more compact in shape. This would tie into a Bloomberg report in October, that Apple plans to remove the stems from the AirPods Pro, bringing them in line with the designs used by Google, Samsung, and others. Apple’s AirPods are famous for their iconic stems (and polarizers), but rivals have shown that they no longer have a functional need to make high-quality phone calls.
Interestingly, Mr. White says that the images may mean Apple is making “two sizes” of AirPods Pro and introducing a more compact version as a new flagship pair of noise-canceling headphones makes sense. That said, the company would probably need to find a brand other than ‘Max’ if it wants to avoid confusing its customer base. Not only are they associated with larger sizes, the ‘AirPods Pro Max’ would also sound superior to Apple’s new $ 550 AirPods Max.
It’s also worth noting that Mr. White refers to the next generation AirPods Pros as “still [using] Chips W2 ”, which can cause confusion. Apple debuted the W1 chip in its original AirPods, but replaced it with the H1 chip in its successors and the AirPods Pro. So, given the use of “yet,” I suspect this is just a typo.
White has had a solid track record of sourcing hardware from Apple prior to launch for several years, and the link to the Bloomberg report suggests that these all-new AirPods Pros are coming soon. That said, with AirPods Pro retailing for $ 250 and AirPods Max up $ 300, there is plenty of room for Apple to close the gap. So I wouldn’t be surprised if the end result was a price tag of $ 350-399.
How would Apple justify this? The latest company patents may have already revealed the game.
