Netflix’s user growth has slowed recently and the company is now looking for ways to get more people interested in subscribing.
As part of a trial, it is said that it will offer free access to users in India for a weekend. In some ways, this should help expand its reach in the country, according to a senior company executive.
Netflix recently stopped offering a one-month free trial to those interested in subscribing to its streaming service online, so this free weekend in India, the trial, at least in part, would aim to compensate that.
Greg Peters, Netflix’s chief operating officer and chief product officer, says the company plans to continue experimenting with new ways to attract more customers. The free weekend experiment is likely to expand to more countries in the future, if it is successful in India.
It’s unclear exactly which weekend we’re talking about here, as it looks like Netflix hasn’t decided yet. This isn’t the first time the company is testing things on the subcontinent, it has a history of doing such things – the mobile-only monthly plan started there, for example.
