Nest Audio Unpacking Reveals Touch Control Location

After a day of Chromecast leaks with Google TV, Nest Audio is getting its own unpacking. This is a simpler practice, but it revealed the presence of touch controls.

Interestingly, all the Nest Audio speakers you see on store shelves have been in Charcoal. The box of a disposable Reddit account touts “crisp vocals and rich bass from the built-in tweet and woofer,” as well as the ability to “pair two for stereo sound.” The full specs will likely only appear after being announced by Google on September 30, although an initial impression is quite positive:

Audio quality takes the original house of Google out of the water by a very, very wide margin. The highs are super clear and crisp, the lows are remarkably delicate and defined, while the heavy bass elements appear to have definition rather than a loud output. It seems competitive with my Sonos IKEA speakers at lower volumes.

This gray unit is paired with a white base and has a good size comparison to the Magic Keyboard 2. The power adapter is white and looks like the unit included with the Nest Hub Max. Like last year’s Made by Google smart displays and Nest Mini, it takes advantage of a barrel connector.

The instruction booklet reveals that touch controls are present on the upper front half. The volume is adjusted by touching the corners, while the wide “front top” is for play / pause. This hardware aspect was taken over and is attached to the mute switch on the rear.

Given that Nest Audio is available in stores now, with a handful of successful purchases and unboxings, it will likely be available shortly after Wednesday’s launch for $ 99.99.
