In a major raid, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested a man connected to a network of DJs and party planners in Mumbai on Saturday.
S Ghangale, detained in Vasai in the Palghar district of Maharashtra, is said to have supplied them with cocaine.
The operation was directly supervised by the CEO of the OCN, Rakesh Asthana.
The investigation of the case began on September 1 when the NCB seized a package containing 670 grams of cocaine at the Customs Import Inspection Area, Delhi. The plot’s origin dates back to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, said NCB Deputy Director (Operations) KPS Malhotra.
The chief of the OCN had ordered a “controlled delivery operation” to reach the accused. With such a delivery, the OCN can keep the package “alive” even after taking the contraband and replacing it with a fake package.
After executing the ‘controlled delivery’ and checking the recipient’s background, an OCN team arrived in Mumbai and successfully arrested Ghangale from Vasai, almost 60 km from Mumbai.
The defendant is associated with a number of high-profile drug users and traffickers in Mumbai, many of them as property dealers or construction contractors who also work as drug traffickers.
“Their network is also involved with various DJs and party planners who are in turn linked to Mumbai high-end party circuits,” Malhotra said.
