Experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) arrived in Butembo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, DRC, to support local health authorities in their response. More than 200 contacts are currently being monitored, following the resurgence of the virus a week ago, the WHO said.

This comes a day after a second person died of Ebola in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, three months after authorities declared the end of the country’s latest outbreak, WHO said Thursday.

According to the country office of the World Health Organization, the second victim was a 60-year-old farm worker who died on Wednesday.

The woman was linked to the first death in the Biena health zone in North Kivu province, he added.

That first case involved a woman, the wife of an Ebola survivor, who died on February 3.

The World Health Organization, through its director general Tedros Adhanom, announced on Thursday that it hopes to begin an Ebola vaccination campaign in the Democratic Republic of the Congo later this week.
