Following the chaotic start of pre-orders for the PlayStation 5, Microsoft has reiterated that it will let the world know exactly what time pre-orders go live for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
Xbox Tweet, which came after the PS5 pre-order issues, recalled the pre-order date of September 22 and the global launch in 36 countries on November 10, and included a guarantee that Xbox “will tell you the exact time at pre-orders start for you soon. “
This story started after Sony held their PlayStation 5 Showcase event and finally revealed the price and release date of the PS5. While it included games like Final Fantasy XVI, a sequel to God of War, and Hogwarts Legacy, the presentation made no mention of pre-orders.
Interestingly, the first thing we heard about pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 was after the show. through Geoff Keighley, who said “according to Sony, pre-orders for # PlayStation5 will be available from TOMORROW at select retailers.”
A few minutes later, PlayStation confirmed Keighley’s tweet, but did not give further information on when the pre-orders would be launched.
While many expected nothing to happen until tomorrow, pre-orders apparently launched in Walmart. This was not a mistake, as Walmart later tweeted “Make you wait to get the new # PlayStation5? No, that’s not like us. Go ahead and pre-order it NOW!”
This caused the internet to burn and many tried to secure a PlayStation 5 on launch day. GameStop and Target advance orders then it got going, followed by Best Buy and Amazon. Speaking from personal experience, I tried to insure a Best Buy PS5 for MORE THAN TWO HOURS before it was claimed to be out of stock. Honestly, the trial and error experience felt similar to what I imagine a Bloodborne 2 would be on PS5, well … without the hard-fought victory at the end.
To make things even more confusing, PlayStation sent emails to those who signed up for a chance to pre-order a PS5 directly from Sony. It is unclear why certain people were chosen over others, as all PlayStation said was that their selection would be based “on previous interests and activities of PlayStation.”
At the time of writing, PlayStation has yet to comment on tonight’s events, but it goes against their previous comments that promised PS5 pre-orders would not be a surprise.
Hopefully we’ll hear more about a plan in place for PlayStation 5 pre-orders in the next few hours, and we’ll keep our “ PS5 pre-order guide ” up to date with everything you need to know to secure your new console!
