In late March, Microsoft announced plans to rename its Office 365 consumer subscriptions to “Microsoft 365”. Starting today, April 21, that new M365 brand goes into effect for existing Office 365 Home and Personal subscriptions and becomes the new brand for new consumer subscriptions.

Microsoft has promised that some new apps and features will be added to the new Microsoft 365 Family and Personal subscriptions. In today’s blog post announcing the availability of M365 consumer subscriptions, Microsoft did not offer any additional details on when these new features will be implemented.

It is unknown when the new promised Family Safety or Money in Excel applications will be available. There’s also nothing new today about when the promised consumer-centric Teams features will hit Microsoft Teams apps for iOS and Android. All we have heard is that these new applications and features will be available, starting in the preview, “in the coming months.”

(It’s worth reiterating that there won’t be a new Teams app called Teams for Home or anything like that. Instead, Microsoft will add new consumer-centric Team features to its existing Teams apps for iOS and Teams for Android. Teams iOS and Android users will be able to access these new consumer functions by switching between their work and personal accounts. New users will be able to download the Teams application for free on iOS or Android and log in with a Microsoft account).

Microsoft 365 Family: The product formerly known as Office 365 Home, costs $ 9.99 per month, or $ 99.99 per year. This plan allows users to share downloadable Office applications and 1 TB of OneDrive storage per person with up to five people. Microsoft 365 Personal, the product formerly known as Office 365 Personal, costs $ 6.99 per month or $ 69.99 per year. It includes the main downloadable Office applications and a TB of cloud storage for a single user.
