If you have never gotten to buy and play Last light of the subway, the remastered version is free on the GOG store today and tomorrow (via Polygon). The game has been around for a while, but it’s still as scary as ever, even if you’re playing it a second or third time. And, when you get a game from GOG, it comes DRM free, so your copy of the game is not tied to any particular platform. You can download the files to your hard drive and it will still run without the GOG launcher installed.

The process of claiming the game is not very obvious, since the “Last light of the subway giveaway ”at the top of the page just takes you to the GOG search screen. To claim the free game, you’ll first want to log in (or create an account if you don’t have one), then go to the home page. Scroll down until you see a banner with a button that says “Yes, and claim the game.” The “yes”, by the way, is that you are opting in to receive marketing emails from GOG, so keep that in mind before clicking. Clicking the button should add the game to your library, where you can then go and download it.

That big green button is the only thing you can click that will actually get you into the game.

Offering a free and really great game may be an attempt by GOG owner CD Projekt Red to try to win back some of the goodwill that was lost this month. The company has been dealing with the failed launch of Cyberpunk 2077, as well as a public relations crisis related to GOG itself: Some are concerned that the company capitulated to the Chinese government by reversing its decision to hold Red Candle Games. . Devotion, which contained unflattering references to the Chinese president in an earlier version.

If you’ve decided not to use CD Projekt Red’s services for whatever reason, and don’t mind the game getting stuck on a single platform, you can still buy it pretty cheap on Steam – it’ll be $ 3.99 there until January 5. Regardless of the platform you choose, Last light of the subway it’s a great game with a solid story and many tense and poignant moments. I played it when it was true that maybe I was too young, and it resulted in a fair amount of nightmares, so it may not be for the faint of heart.

If you feel like more free games, Torch II it’s free on the Epic Games Store today.
