The Duchess of Sussex has made her first appearance since revealing she suffered a miscarriage, praising the “power of the human spirit” displayed during the coronavirus pandemic.

Last month, in an article for The New York Times, Meghan – who shares 19-month-old Archie with her husband Prince harry – argued about her “almost unbearable pain” after losing her second baby in July.

On Monday, he appeared in a two-minute video message as part of CNN’s Heroes series, highlighting those who had helped feed the hungry, the children, and the people they were protecting during the COVID-19 crisis.

She said: “For many families, the impact of the pandemic has been catastrophic and too many were faced with a heartbreaking question: how am I going to put food on the table for my family?

“But in the face of this devastating reality, we also saw the power of the human spirit and the remarkable ways communities respond in difficult times.

“We saw the good in the people, in our neighbors and in entire communities who came together to say they would not be left out while our neighbors went hungry.”

Meghan added that “the warmth of a meal” could feel as “comforting as a much-needed hug,” especially in the absence of human contact “due to the social distancing we are all experiencing.”

“These moments reminded many that they are cared for,” he continued.

“Tonight we celebrate these silent heroes, some of whom I know and some of whom we applaud from afar.

“They showed us, all of us, that even in the darkest moments, when we come together, we have the power to remind another person that there is hope and that we will be okay.”

Meghan’s words echoed those of her New York Times article, in which she emphasized the importance of asking people if they are okay and ended her article with, “Are we okay? We will.”
