Mauricio Pochettino has been confirmed as Paris Saint-Germain’s new manager, but that hasn’t stopped some fans from hoping that he will one day join Manchester United.
Although they reached the final of the Champions League last season and qualified for this year’s round of 16, PSG fired former coach Thomas Tuchel on Christmas Eve and Pochettino was installed as the immediate favorite to replace him.
The Argentine has been out of work since being fired by Tottenham in November 2019 and has rejoined the club where he spent two years as a player in the early 2000s.
Despite his pedigree and reputation for implementing long-term club improvement plans, the Parisians have only awarded him an initial 18-month contract, although there is an option for one more year.

The short duration of the deal has come as a surprise and some United supporters have interpreted it as still waiting for the Old Trafford hot seat.
Pochettino has long been linked to United’s takeover and, amid a losing streak in form in November, MEN reported that United had contacted Pochettino’s representatives with a view to replacing Ole. Gunnar Solskjaer, while reporting in 2019 that he was interested in the job.
Since then, however, United have had a remarkable run of form, going undefeated in their last 10 Premier League matches, and are now tied on points with Liverpool at the top of the table after having fought their way. towards an unlikely title race.
As a result, Solskjaer’s job is secured for the time being.
That hasn’t stopped some fans from pointing out that the Norwegian’s contract also expires in the summer of 2022, leading some to theorize that the door has been left open for Pochettino to finally join the club in the future.
However, many other fans are delighted with the job the current manager is doing and are happy that Pochettino finally has a new job as it means that rumors of him taking over United no longer hang over Solskjaer.
Joining PSG, Pochettino said: “I am very happy and honored to become the new coach of Paris Saint-Germain. I want to thank the Club’s management for the trust they have placed in me.
“As you know, this club has always held a special place in my heart. I have wonderful memories, especially of the unique atmosphere of the Parc des Princes. I return to the Club today with a lot of ambition and humility and I am looking forward to working with some of the most senior players. talented in the world.
“This team has fantastic potential and my staff and I will do everything possible to achieve the best for Paris Saint-Germain in all competitions. We will also do everything possible to give our team the identity of combative and offensive play that Parisien fans have always had. loved. “
