Man Utd Discusses Pregame Cheering Ritual After Fan Group Proposal

Plans are being discussed for Manchester United players to applaud their fans in a formal pregame ritual before the games at Old Trafford.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and captain Harry Maguire will be asked for their opinion on the proposal, which has been put forward by club fans.

At the moment, there is no established procedure for United players to recognize the support of fans, and it is up to individuals to applaud once the teams have been introduced.

But a suggestion has been put forward, according to which United players would gather in the center circle and applaud fans before the kickoff in each home game, in recognition of their enduring support.

The proposal was raised at a United fan forum meeting before the season was suspended due to the coronavirus and would be presented to Solskjaer and Maguire for consideration.

The suggestion will be made to United captain Harry Maguire and Chief Solskjaer.

The purpose of the plan is to further strengthen the bond between players and United fans, ensuring that all 11 players show their appreciation for the support before the start.

United players are currently walking to Stone Roses’ ‘This Is The One’ anthem, but another proposal would see the pre-match ritual be ruled out, in favor of creating a more natural fan-generated atmosphere.

The idea behind United not coming out with any musical accompaniment is to allow the Old Trafford crowd, which averages nearly 75,000, to naturally build the atmosphere, in a crescendo.

United has already tested the idea in several Premier League games and its 5-0 Europa League victory over Club Brugge, but has not yet made a final decision on pregame music in the future.

The Reds were already planning to increase the atmosphere at the Theater of Dreams by making room for another 2,000 fans in the singing section at Stretford End

Following the success of the singing section near the tunnel where the players emerge, United plans to increase capacity to include the southwest quadrant.

United has also put forward proposals to test a rail seating area at Old Trafford, believing it would improve fan safety in areas where supporters remain standing.
