Mainland China warns DPP authority against ‘Taiwan independence’

A mainland Chinese spokesperson on Saturday criticized Taiwan’s leader Tsai Ing-wen and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authority for advocating collusion with foreign forces to seek “Taiwan independence.”

Zhu Fenglian, a spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of China, made the remarks in response to a query related to the leadership of Tsai Ing-wen on Saturday.

Responsibilities fall on the DPP authorities for disrupting exchanges and cooperation between people on both sides of the Strait and promoting a series of “Taiwan Independence” activities.

Zhu said that any attempt to engage in separatist and political manipulation activities to create “Taiwan independence” will not be successful.

Zhu added that the DPP leader is deliberately misleading the people of Taiwan, warning the Taiwanese authorities to adhere to the 1992 Consensus.

Only by adhering to the correct political base can both sides of the Strait resume talks and negotiations, the spokesman said. Thus, cross-strait relations can be improved.
