MacBook Pro and Air with Apple’s New Chips to Launch Next Week, Report Claims

We know Apple is planning to release something next week, but aside from the “One More Thing” tagline on the invite, we don’t (officially) know what.

On Monday, Bloomberg shared some details of what, exactly, will be coming up at Apple’s event on November 10. According to the report, the company will release a total of three Macs with Apple silicone inside next week: a 13-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro as well as a 13-inch MacBook Air.

On the outside, these new laptops will be similar to their predecessors, but what’s on the inside is what counts: Apple’s new ARM-based internal chips, which will replace the Intel chips inside Apple computers.

Apple made the transition to Intel chips and moved away from PowerPC architecture in 2005, a historic decision for the company, but now Apple is seeking more control over the design of its chips, as well as establishing a common architecture across all of its products.

There are no further details on the upcoming devices. However, the Bloomberg report says that the two 13-inch models are more advanced in production and that these two are sure to be shown at the event, while the 16-inch model could arrive later.

Bloomberg also says that Apple is already working on a redesigned iMac, as well as a new Mac Pro, which looks like a smaller version of the current model.

The news isn’t particularly surprising, as Apple itself said it would ship Apple’s first silicon-powered Mac by the end of the year. The transition should be completed in two years.
