Liverpool fans are struggling to see a way back.
The Reds could only tie the struggling Fulham side of Scott Parker in a performance that was quite disappointing.
Bobby Reid opened the scoring for the Londoners before Mohamed Salah slashed a well-executed penalty.
Discussions about injuries have dominated social media and the press and they are not going away anytime soon, especially not with the latest news coming out of the club.
Diogo Jota, Kostas Tsimikas and Naby Keita are the last to be added to the butcher’s account, but that has given some of the younger members of the team some time to shine.
One of those players is Curtis Jones. The 19-year-old made his seventh Premier League appearance of the season on Sunday and is beginning to play at an exciting level of maturity.
Jones has always had the raw talent, but Scouser is starting to show that he has the tactical ability and conscience to do what Jurgen Klopp wants.
That, combined with his physical stamina, means that some Liverpool fans are worried about the future of one of their senior teammates.
Keita has struggled to stay on the side for a period of time and is currently injured, and given Jones’ high level of performance, there is no guarantee Keita will be on it again.
We have seen Klopp choose his teams based on skill and form rather than reputation. It’s what led Trent Alexander-Arnold to get his big break, and the same could be said for Andy Robertson.
If Jones is doing everything that has been asked of him, continues to play well, and stays fit, then it could be a very long road back to the first team for Keita.
However, the Guniea international may have luck on his side. If Joel Matip’s back spasm keeps him off the side for a period of time, we might see Jordan Henderson come back on defense and that will give Keita a way to the side.
