Liverpool faces busy transfer deadline day as Harry Wilson leads possible exodus

[ad_1]

It has been the transfer window that seemingly never wants to end.

But at 5pm tonight, the final deadline for Liverpool to wrap up its business until a brief hiatus before the January market opens.

Since international deals and Premier League moves had to be worked out earlier this month, the focus for the past fortnight has been on transfers to and from lower-league clubs.

Liverpool are not keen to bring in a goalkeeper who dismissed suggestions last weekend of interest in Stoke City’s Jack Butland.

Instead, the Reds have several players who could be on the move today, either a permanent exit or, as is more likely, a temporary exit.

The biggest intrigue surrounds Harry Wilson, whose long-term prospects at Liverpool look bleak having been omitted from their Champions League squad.

Wilson, on international service with Wales this week, is being courted for a loan by Swansea City and Derby County, with whom he spent the 2018/19 season.

The winger had been a target for Burnley, but his offer of £ 12 million plus add-ons was rejected by Liverpool, which values Wilson closer to £ 20 million.

Nat Phillips has returned from injury and is wanted by a host of championship clubs including Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough and Bristol City. Liverpool prefers a permanent exit for the central defender.

Last month, Ben Woodburn was loaned out at Sparta Rotterdam, and the Welshman instead topped the U23 team in the opening weeks of the season. Hull City have already shown interest, while League One’s Charlton Athletic are also considering an offer.

Hull may also consider replacing Herbie Kane, who impressed with the Tigers earlier in the year until his term ended with injury. Kane returned to action last week for the U-23s in a 5-0 friendly win over Salford City at Kirkby Academy.

Liam Millar, another of those who has starred in the U-23 this season, is also prepared for a temporary exit.

Yasser Larouci became available for sale in early summer after turning down a new deal before entering the last 12 months of his contract.

While the initial interest from Leeds United and Brentford fell flat, the championship Norwich City was among other clubs monitoring developments.

Finally, Sepp van den Berg is available for loan to Liverpool eager for the teenager to continue his development with regular first-team football.

Scouts across Europe saw the Dutch defender in action at the EFL Trophy last month, though any moves would now be limited to lower-league national clubs.
