An 87-year-old retired race relations expert from Newcastle will help make medical history when he does his “duty” and becomes one of the first people in the Western world to have a Covid vaccine.
“I am very happy that we are hopefully reaching the end of this pandemic and I am delighted to do my bit by receiving the vaccine,” said Hari Shukla before receiving his vaccine. “I feel like it’s my duty to do it and do whatever I can to help.”
Shukla and his 83-year-old wife Ranjan will receive the first of their two injections of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle on Tuesday morning, a week after Britain became the first nation in the world. Western world to approve a coronavirus vaccine:
