Prolific leaker Jon Prosser in a tweet on Monday said his sources are convinced that Apple will announce the next-generation Apple Watch and iPad Air models on Tuesday.
Reaffirming rumors first aired in August, Prosser said today that Apple will break with tradition and introduce new Apple Watch products through a press release. The company typically announces new versions of the wearable device and other side product lines, along with the iPhone at an explosive fall event.
Prosser’s initial report was challenged over the weekend when From Bloomberg Mark Gurman in a tweet said that he expects an Apple press release this week to set a date for this year’s virtual iPhone event, not reveal new hardware. The prediction set the stage for something of a showdown between the two leakers.
Despite Gurman’s opinion, Prosser in a late-night tweet said his sources “are not budging” on Tuesday’s alleged statement.
“Okay, guys. Last tweet of the night. My sources haven’t moved or changed their minds. They still tell me that the Apple Watch and iPad Air are coming tomorrow via press release. See you in the morning for find out! ” “Prosser said.
To give credence to Prosser’s forecast is a gradual decline in Apple Watch Series 5 stocks. Many strap versions and combinations are currently out of stock at the online Apple Store in China, Japan, the US, and the UK.
When it launches, the “Apple Watch Series 6” is rumored to feature an enhanced wireless communications stack, new blood oxygen monitoring capabilities, and other enhancements. A new, cheaper model made of plastic is anticipated to replace the aging Series 3 that anchors Apple’s lineup.
As for a next-generation iPad Air, regulatory documents filed with the Eurasian Economic Commission suggest that seven new iPad models will debut in the near future. More recently, a supposedly leaked “iPad Air 4” user manual detailed a tablet that removes the home button and relocates Touch ID to the power switch.
Prosser in previous tweets said that Apple’s announcement, whatever it is, is tentatively scheduled to go live around 9 a.m. ET tomorrow, in line with the company’s regular press release schedule.
