League of Legends MMO quietly announced

The online multiplayer battle game League of Legends has remained incredibly popular since it was first released in 2009. But now there will be another game named after it that has the potential to become even more popular.

As Windows Central reports, Riot Games has quietly revealed that it is working on a massively multiplayer online game (MMO) of League of Legends. I say very quietly because it was revealed in a twitter thread by Riot Vice President Greg Street. Street’s initial tweet announced that his job at Riot recently had been to develop the League universe, but that “My new job is to release a great (some might say massive) game that many of you, and many Rioters, have been asking us. to create “.

The use of the word “massive” generated a response from the Twitter user. Richelle asking if the new game is an MMO, to which Street replied “It is an MMO.“And for now that seems to be all we’re getting, no details, no timeline, just confirmation that Riot is now working on an MMO set in the League universe.

Last year was the 10th anniversary of League of Legends and during the celebrations Riot revealed that two new projects were in development in the League universe. They were referred to as Project A and Project F. Project A turned out to be the Valorant team shooter, but Project F remained a mystery. This MMO is likely Project F, as it was described at the time as “a project that explores the possibilities of traversing the world of Runeterra with your friends,” but Riot has yet to confirm this.

MMOs are notoriously difficult to make money unless they go the free play route, which seems highly likely. They also take a long time to develop, but League of Legends is certainly not going away and Riot has a new League of Legends single-player game releasing next year called Ruined King. The developer clearly has the time and resources he needs to start working with an MMO when he’s ready.
