If you’ve had trouble securing a next-gen console pre-order, you may be distracted by some classic Konami PC games this holiday season. That’s assuming Konami’s latest retro gaming ratings lead to an actual release.
As Gematsu reports, the Japanese publisher / developer just had Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance and Konami Collector’s Series: Castlevania and Contra rated for PC by the Taiwan Digital Games Rating Committee. Listings include images like the one above. The only reason to rate the games is to release them in some form, but there is no official confirmation from Konami on whether, when and how they hope to release them.
The ratings are important because they include the old Metal Gear games. As Eurogamer points out, other than through emulation, there is no up-to-date way to play the listed Metal Gear games on PC at this time. The most recent hardware platform that plays them is the PS3 when loading Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection or Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for PS3 or Xbox 360.
Konami Collector’s Series: Castlevania and Contra was already released on PC, but it was in 2002. It includes NES versions of Castlevania, Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest and Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, as well as Contra and Super C It is a good collection of games, so it is to be expected that Konami plans to relaunch them at a reasonable price.
