Inspector Benoit Blanc’s days of mystery solving are far from over, as Netflix is shelling out a hefty $ 450 million for the rights to two more “Knives Out” movies, Variety reports.
Fox News reports that the recent acquisition is one of the largest Netflix has made, giving the platform something that studios have long depended on: a major film franchise. According to the site, Netflix outbid several other streaming services to obtain the rights to the follow-up movies.
Deadline reports that the first “Knives Out” movie was produced on a $ 40 million budget and grossed more than $ 310 million at the worldwide box office.
Johnson will write and direct the next sequel and Daniel Craig will reprise his role as inspector. According to Deadline, filming will begin in Greece in June and casting is underway.
Variety reports that the first film followed Inspector Blanc de Craig as he worked to discover who murdered an eccentric mystery novel writer. The film featured an all-star cast that included Jamie Lee Curtis, Ana de Armas, Christopher Plummer, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Lakeith Stanfield, Toni Collette, and Chris Evans. In 2019, the film received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay.
