The Duchess of Cambridge surprised two parents by video calling to congratulate them on the birth of their new child.
Former Kate Middleton spoke to Rebecca and John, who are the proud parents of a newborn son named Max, who was born at Kingston Hospital, South London. The hospital holds a special place in the Duchess’s heart, as she did observation work for two days last year.
A video of the sweet call was shared on YouTube. “Nice to meet you,” he said. “This is definitely the first time. Well, first of all, many congratulations. Is it a boy or a girl?

“Having a baby is an extraordinary experience at any time, but having one during the confinement and then having a surprise conversation with the Duchess of Cambridge after two hours of sleep was particularly surreal,” the new mother told People. “The Duchess asked us about having a baby at such an unusual time, and our experience in the maternity ward was that all the midwives did it as normally as possible, apart from the masks, it was exactly the same as when we had our first son Rafe in 2015. The midwives were amazing both times. “
Catherine, who has been quarantining her home at Amner Hall in Norfolk, also spoke to midwives and maternity experts ahead of UK Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week, which begins on May 4.
The Duchess of Cambridge also asked staff how they were doing in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. “Are you very aware of a difference or change in a mother’s emotional and mental well-being compared to before the pandemic?” she asked.
