Jon Jones has not been able to give up the GOAT debate since Khabib Nurmagomedov received that title unofficially after his victory at UFC 254. Jones has a better resume as a UFC championship fighter. As a result, he has felt very bad about the treatment Khabib received.
His latest arrow in this argument has been the different levels of opposition that both combatants have faced. Jones casually pointed to some of the former champions he had to beat. Basically this includes what is sometimes called a “killer row.” This is because many of Jones’s opponents were considered icons of the PRIDE era and shaped in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
Submitting Vitor belfort, Lyoto Machida, rampage Jackson (former champion)> Justin Gaethje 🤷🏾♂️ Ignore the facts if you want

He expanded on the Vitor fight and tweeted something full of irony. He noted that he faced ‘TRT Vitor’, the time when Belfort was full of juice and one of the scariest fighters in the entire UFC. Jones faced Belfort and still managed to get a win, but Jones himself has his share of steroid charges that he won’t be able to overcome.
Brother Vitor was into all kinds of things, the guy was murdering people even after our fight. I guess everyone was “small” when they looked at me 🥴🐐💩 https://t.co/2BqzsHVyXi

Jon Jones and the level of opponents he has faced
One argument that Jones should win easily is this. While people differ on how to evaluate GOATS, this is something that is established in clear and concrete facts. Jon Jones had a five-fight career in his championship prime where he dominatingly defeated five of the division’s most dangerous fighters.
It started with a win over Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua, a former PRIDE Grand Prix winner. Jones dethroned Rua and took the Light Heavyweight Championship, becoming the youngest UFC champion in history. He followed this up with back-to-back finishes over former champions Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson and Lyoto Machida. He then faced bitter rival Rashad Evans, and left with a dominating decision over him. Jones then defeated Vitor Belfort by submission.
Jones has obviously added many more names to his list. Daniel Cormier, Chael Sonnen, Alexander Gustaffson and others. Jones has clearly triumphed over many more elite fighters than Khabib. But perhaps its longevity is what has accustomed everyone to its high level of performance. Perhaps we also appreciate ‘Bones’ Jones more when he retires.
