Popular Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate Eyitayo Jegede has repudiated some alleged political thugs arrested with firearms in Ifon in the Ose local government area of Ondo state.
Jegede was scheduled to make a stop in Ifon as part of his local government campaign tour.
The alleged political thugs were inside a Toyota Sienna bus with Jegede’s campaign images.
Last week, Jegede supporters and Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu clashed in Oba Akoko in the Akoko South West local government area, leaving eight people injured and several vehicles destroyed.
Jegede’s campaign organization chairman Gbenga Akinmoyo, in a statement, said the general public has learned of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) plans to adorn political bullies in branded materials. PDP to unleash chaos at other party meetings with the point of view of blaming the PDP.
Akinmoyo stated that an APC chief boasted of militancy, weapons and ammunition.
According to the statement: “The information of the arrest of some thugs in branded vehicles with the PDP logo in Ifon in Ose LG, while our campaign train must make a stop in the city is nothing more than an attempt by the APC to comply their evil plans.
“While we thank the security agencies for their vigilance to avoid unnecessary chaos, we urge the general public to remain focused and not indulge in the antics of the ruling APC which is determined to drag us into unproductive arguments that may distract us from those issues. that border the well-being of our people and the failure of the APC government to address them. “
But Akeredolu Campaign Organization spokesperson Olatunde Richard said they were shocked and bewildered by what he called a display of shame on the part of the main opposition party in the state, caught in a web of violence and carnage.
Olatunde said it was a relief for the police to seize the sophisticated weapons, cartridges and machetes that could have been used to cut innocent people of the state at the altar of politics.
According to him: “While we congratulate the police authority for their valiant efforts to arrest these thugs, we strongly condemn this act and call for further investigation into the activities of the PDP Campaign.
“We wonder if the PDP sees the election as a war or an electoral contest for the position of governor of the state.
“We insist that this not only constitutes a danger to our democracy and a credible electoral process, but also to the lives of the people, whom the party claims it is destined to serve.”
