Meanwhile, Bayern boss Uli Hoeness expressed his contempt for Liverpool and Manchester United for their negotiation tactics in the transfer window.

Speaking to Sport1, Hoeness said: “It’s a difficult situation. Some time ago we agreed on a new four-year contract. A few days later he said: ‘I’m looking for a new challenge.” Which is totally fine.

“I think he obviously has an agreement with Liverpool or Manchester United or both. Now both clubs are bragging and nobody has officially contacted Bayern Munich.”

“From my point of view, that has no style. They are trying to blackmail us, waiting until the last week, when they will make a cheap offer.

“In that case, FC Bayern have to ask themselves the question: do they want to continue with that or do they tell the player that he has to stay?

“It will be three hot weeks until [the transfer window closes on] October 5th “.
