England pacemaker James Anderson is very excited about his team’s challenging tour of the subcontinent.
England are scheduled to play 17 events in 2021 and will begin their journey with two events in Sri Lanka this month, followed by four events in India in February-March.
Although Anderson expects touring to be difficult for bowlers, he cautioned that England is up for the challenge.
James Anderson was quoted by Reuters while speaking to the press on Monday,
“Obviously these will be tough courses for needlework bowlers, but that doesn’t make it any less exciting. It’s just a different challenge and the fact that we haven’t played any test cricket for a few months means we’re all hungry to get ahead. “
Anderson, 38, is England’s all-time leading scorer in test cricket. With 600 scalps to its name, it also has the most wickets for any fast bowler in the game’s longest format.
Anderson, who reached the 600 wicket milestone against Pakistan in August, said he used the long hiatus to work on his fitness for the upcoming cricket season.
The England squad is currently isolated at their hotel in Hambantota. Visitors await their COVID-19 test on Tuesday, after which they will be allowed to start practicing prior to the Galle Test, which begins January 14.
James Anderson’s sad record in Sri Lanka
In a career that spans nearly 18 years, Anderson has not done well in Sri Lanka. He has 12 fields of the six tests he has played in the island nation with an average of 46.08. His hit rate marks a dismal 88.3.
However, Anderson is optimistic, saying:
“In the last couple of tours around Sri Lanka, the grounds have really adapted to the spinners. But there are opportunities for sailors to take windows; there is a reverse swing and the new ball also swings. I’ve certainly had some success on Galle, and I know that some of the other closers have, too, so it’s certainly not a closers nightmare. We have to be ready to make a big change. “
It remains to be seen how Anderson will perform during England’s challenging tours of Sri Lanka and India.
