TPLF-mobilizeOctober 25, 2020 (Ezega.com) – The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) said that the President of Eritrea, Isaias Afwerki, and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, are planning a war against him and the Tigray village.

In a statement released over the weekend, the TPLF called on the people of Eritrea and the Ethiopian defense forces to stand by their side to prevent bloodshed and end the autocratic rules of the leaders.

“The leaders are cementing personal relationships by ignoring the fraternal ties between the peoples of Eritrea and Ethiopia and dictatorial leaders would be responsible for all the chaos that may occur,” the statement said.

TPLF blamed Prime Minister Abiy for illegally seizing power and practicing unitary administration and negotiating to sell the Great Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in exchange for a large ransom.

He also accused Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of committing treason by forging an alliance with foreign forces in an attempt to hand over the people and ruling party of the Tigray region.

“The Abiy led government has no legal basis to carry out the restructuring of the regiments in the army, as its mandate had already ended on October 5, 2020. Consequently, decisions regarding the restructuring of the army do not are acceptable “, it reads

The ruling Tigray party also urged members of the federal army to reject orders from Abiy, who is the commander-in-chief of the Ethiopian defense forces.

The statement further said that the planned regiments to be deployed in Addis Ababa and the city of Bahir Dar are destined to surrender to the Tigray government.

The regional government has required the federal government to hand over the annual budget to the Tigray region without preconditions. “TPLF said that the budget is a refund that the region had paid in the form of taxes to the federal government and the ‘illegal force’ has no legal basis to freeze the budget.” He said.

“If the ‘illegal force’ cuts the budget of the Tigray region against the constitutional right of the people of Tigray, it will amount to declaring war and the Addis Ababa authorities will be responsible for all the chaos that occurs there.”

Relations between the Ethiopian federal government and the Tigray region have deteriorated after these latest elections held unilaterally last September challenged the upper house’s decision to postpone national elections due to Covid-19.

The Upper House of the Federal Parliament subsequently voted to exclude the region from official business and imposed a series of tough measures, including budget cuts, against the region.

Critics say that although Abiy had ruled out military action against the region, war could soon break out if disputes continue in this way.
