I remember around this exact time two years ago, when it was almost half a year until the Google event, and the Pixel 3 leaks COULD NOT STOP coming. The images were leaked early, then a person was seen using the Pixel 3 to click the images outdoors, then accidentally left a phone in a taxi, and finally an e-commerce site put the phone in their store online before Google launched the product. Now, personally, I would expect a company as big and powerful as Google to be a little less sloppy, leading me to believe that the phone was intentionally leaked. Some technical reviewers believe that this process helps mitigate the force of bad press by spreading it. If customers don’t like the design of the product 5 months before the product is launched, it is enough time for them to hate it a little less when the product is actually launched. Two years have passed since Pixel 3, and it seems Google is slowly adopting and refining this strategy. Based on credible leaks from quite a few well-positioned and reputable people, this is probably what the Pixel 5 will look like.
The Pixel 5, based on rumors, comes with a design that is almost like 4, with the exception of that camera (which I’ll refer to, obviously). Its front end still has that slight forehead to accommodate the earpiece and front camera, and the phone still has its stained glass back, a USB-C port, and no headphone jack. Some articles on tech websites have delved into the inside of the phone, and the most notable difference between the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 5, at least when it comes to their strategy, is that the Pixel 5 is not going to be the phone. front-line Google. It appears that the company is cutting tech specs to build a good, affordable, non-flagship phone. Whether it is the result of our current economic climate or whether Google had this strategy all along it seems hard to point out, but the Pixel 5 will apparently have a Snapdragon 765G processor, which is Qualcomm’s second best chip in its 2020 lineup. This effectively means that Google is pushing for a phone that is greater than the sum of its parts. The company is more than capable of making a great phone out of ordinary hardware, for example, its single-lens camera is capable of taking portrait mode photos. The Pixel 5 probably won’t be the best Android phone of 2020, but considering it comes from Google, it should still be a pretty good phone.
Which brings me to its unique design. The Pixel 5 may not be a top-notch device, but it’s very important that it doesn’t look like a cheap phone. The weird U-shaped camera bump is, to put it mildly, eye-catching, and reminds me of the Nexus 5 … which was another phone that had an incredibly unique and iconic aesthetic. Call me understanding, but the Nexus 5 was also my first smartphone. That massive camera bump is a feature you will probably love or hate. Believe it or not, I’m still undecided. I really want to hate it, because it looks like a supermassive notch on the back of your phone, but at the same time I like it. Aesthetics aside, the camera is unique to Google too because it’s the first Pixel phone to have three lenses. Details about the lenses seem scant, but the 3-lens setup also comes with a flash, as well as an additional component that some speculate as a time-of-flight sensor or a laser autofocus sensor. That’s all we really have on the Pixel 5. I’m really not trusting Google to make any announcements right now, in part because the company is working hard on its contact tracking app, and also because the precursor to this phone. The Pixel 4A has not been announced yet. If I were you, I’d wait a bit … however, following Google’s history, a teaser image should hit Twitter very soon!
