Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War not just the first new generation Call of Duty title: is a Call of Duty which will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X / S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC at the same time it launches on November 13. While this is good news for Call of Duty For fans who don’t want to upgrade to a next-gen platform just to play the latest entry in the hit shooter franchise, the game’s ambitious launch strategy has raised questions about the extent of its cross-platform and cross-play capabilities.
The good news is that Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War supports cross-platform options such as cross-play and cross-progression. In short, you can play Cold War with your friends regardless of the platform they are on. As stated on the Activision blog, “a full multiplayer group (maximum of six) could be comprised of players who are playing on all five available platforms, including next and current generation consoles, as well as PC.” That should eliminate any cross-play and cross-generation issues you may have, assuming the system works as intended.
What is even more impressive than Cold WarThe cross-play options are your cross-progression capabilities. Because your profile and all the unlockables in Cold War are linked to your Activision account rather than a specific platform, you will be able to take our progress to any device you play on. So if you launch the game on your PC and decide to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X, all your unlocks will be waiting for you there when you buy the next-gen version of the game.
That said, Activision notes on their blog that “in-game progress or identity may exclude items that are not cross-platform compatible, such as (but not limited to) Call of Duty Endowment packs or exclusive items from a particular platform. “It’s not entirely clear how many unlockables that policy will end up affecting, but you’ll want to keep an eye out for content that won’t make the leap.
