Iranians Protest Navid Afkari Execution

The criminal regime of the mullahs in Iran hanged Navid Afkari, a 27-year-old wrestling champion, on Saturday morning in Iran.

Thousands of Iranians around the world and various governments, international organizations and athletes around the world joined the call to save Navid’s life.

Despite this global campaign against the inhumane death sentence against Navid Afkari, and despite his own statement that the confessions obtained from him were tortured, the Iranian regime refused to back down on the execution.

Navid was born in Shiraz and was executed in his hometown. Shiraz was one of the cities that rebelled against the Iranian regime in November 2019 and many young people were killed by the regime in this city. The Iranian regime executed wrestling champion Navid Afkari, fearing the uprisings would resume. Navid was an example of dissatisfied youth in Iran, and his execution further raises the anger of the Iranian youth inside Iran.

Ms Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), said in a statement: “The criminal regime of the mullahs sent Navid Afkari to the gallows. But they will soon receive their response from the Iranian people and the brave young people in their fiery protests and uprisings to overthrow the regime.

The brave youth of Iran will stand in solidarity with the heroic people of Fars province and in protest at the wrongful execution of Navid Afkari.

Iran mourns Navid and shares the pain of the Afkari family as the world is shocked by Khamenei and the barbarism of the clerical regime.

The religious fascism that rules Iran cannot survive a day without executions, torture and domestic repression. By shedding the blood of young men like Navid Afkari, the mullahs seek to maintain their grip on power in the face of protests from Iran.

However, the execution of Navid Afkari will only add fuel to the flames of the uprising of the Iranian people and will send the regime of the mullahs to the dustbin of history. “
