Up to 1,992 people have been infected with the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the past 24 hours in Iran, said Sima Sadat Lari, a spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Health and Medical Education, Trend reports citing the ministry.
According to Sadat Lari, 139 more people have died from the coronavirus in the last day.
Sadat Lari added that the condition of 3,722 people is critical.
The official said Iranian provinces of Tehran, Mazandaran, Gilan, Qom, Isfahan, Razavi Khorasan, East Azerbaijan, Kerman, North Khorasan, Semnan, Yazd, Zanjan and Qazvin are considered “red” zones.
So far, more than 3.38 million tests have been performed in Iran for the diagnosis of coronavirus.
Iran continues to monitor the coronavirus situation in the country. According to recent reports from Iranian officials, more than 386,600 people have been infected and 22,293 people have already died. Meanwhile, more than 333,900 are reported to have recovered from the disease.
The country continues to apply strict measures to contain further spread. The disease was reportedly brought to Iran by a businessman from the Iranian city of Qom, who made a business trip to China, despite official warnings. The man later died of the disease.
The Islamic Republic only announced its first infections and deaths from the coronavirus on February 19.
The outbreak in the Chinese city of Wuhan, which is an international transportation hub, started at a fish market in late December 2019.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11. Some sources claim that the coronavirus outbreak started in November 2019.
