With all four iPhone 12 models now released and available to buy, those in the leak and prediction business are turning their attention to the iPhone 13, which should arrive around September 2021.
Well-known industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has been voicing his thoughts on what Apple’s next series of flagship phones will bring, according to MacRumors, and it looks like the rear camera could be in line for a significant upgrade.
In particular, the ultrawide lens will be switched to a six-element f / 1.8 lens from the current five-element f / 2.4 lens on the Pro models of the phone. That update should also carry over to iPhone 14 in 2022, Kuo says.
Basically the upgrade would mean that the ultra-wide lens could capture more light and end up with better quality shots. Autofocus is apparently coming to the ultra-wide lens as well, which would again improve the bottom line.
13 is the magic number
Kuo predicts that the same four models we’ve seen this year will make up the iPhone 13 series, so get ready for the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max in around 10 months.
That’s assuming Apple calls the next phone the iPhone 13, but it seems like the most likely option. We have not heard rumors that X or S are involved in the names of the next phones, as has been the case in the past.
Of course, it’s still too early for the iPhone 13 rumors, although we’ve already heard that Touch ID could be making a comeback, with a fingerprint sensor possibly embedded under the display. The series could also offer a model with 1 TB of internal storage.
Another industry analyst has also predicted that the same four models will stick from this year, although Apple should finally update the displays to run at a 120Hz refresh rate, even if it’s only on the Pro models.
