The iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 mini passed the flame, scratch, and flex tests with flying colors. Youtuber JerryRigEverything got one of the first units of the iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 mini and carried out its usual range of durability tests. The two phones passed all the tests with ease. Particularly noteworthy was the flame test, in which the two iPhones showed no signs of damage even after 50 seconds of being exposed to a small fire from a lighter.
JerryRigEverything posted a video in which he performs his usual scratch, bend and flame tests on the iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 mini. In your scratch test, the two phones were found to scratch at level 6 on the Mohs scale, with deeper grooves at level 7. However, these scratches are much less prominent than usual. Apple has placed its new ceramic shield on the screen for added protection. It is essentially a special form of glass that has ceramic crystals embedded in the glass matrix. The company claims that this has improved the iPhone’s break resistance.
The iPhone 12 mini was found to have an aluminum frame, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a stainless steel frame. The two phones were exposed to a lighter flame for about 50 seconds each, and both managed to survive without damaging the pixels. This was quite impressive and JerryRigEverything’s Zack Nelson suggested that the ceramic crystals could also be acting as an insulating layer.
Both the iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 mini also survived the flex test without much fuss, and structurally the phones appeared to have solid quality. The iPhone 12 mini sells in India starting at Rs. 69,900, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max price starts at Rs. 1,29,900. In the United States, prices start at $ 699 and $ 1,099, respectively.
