This unfolding story continues as Apple decided to terminate Epic’s App Store developer account, following the ongoing legal altercation over fees and rules. As a result of this, Epic has been banned from shipping new apps and users will not be able to update Fortnite or make payments through the App Store.
Earlier last week, a court order rejected Epic’s motion calling for Apple to reinstate Fortnite on the App Store. As stated in our previous article, US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers protected developer accounts using the Unreal Engine but did not provide protection for Fortnite. Apple has commented that it is complying with this order and will not enforce any action being taken at Epic on other secondary accounts using the Unreal Engine.
According to a statement issued by Epic, Apple is demanding that “Epic revert to Fortnite to exclusively use Apple Payments.” Epic has made it clear that it will not “collude with Apple to maintain its monopoly on in-app payments on iOS.”
