In early February, Patently Apple released a report titled “New Intel CEO Has Declared War on MacBooks with the M1 Processor by Releasing a First Series of Intel-Created Benchmarks.” The report noted that excitement surrounding MacBooks powered by Apple’s new M1 processor shocked the industry in November and, more importantly, shook Intel.
One of the first tasks the new Intel CEO wanted to tackle was declaring war on Apple’s new M1 processor. He and his team posted a series of graphics that attempted to crush the M1. It was quite a surprising move considering that AMD, Nvidia, and even Qualcomm are the ones that Intel should focus its time on. They are challenging Intel for workstations, servers, and mobile devices.
Today, Intel released a battery of new attack announcements against M1-powered MacBooks. The ads were well planned when they hired Justin Long, the one who used to say “I’m a Mac” to become the kind of PC that pokes fun at Apple’s MacBook. Justin who? – you might ask.
Well, Apple ran a successful ad campaign against Microsoft “Windows” called “Get a Mac” that began in 2006 when Apple made the switch to the Intel processor from the PowerPC. The campaign ran successfully through 2009. It was Apple’s longest-themed ad campaign in its history and Justin Long played the character called “I’m a Mac.”
If you were too young to remember Apple’s original ad campaign, the video below will help you catch up on 66 of the ads running one after another.
The fame of playing “I’m a Mac” opened many doors for John Long and you’d think he’d be grateful. However, in a snippet from a 2019 Larry King Now interview, Long thought the ads were inherently arrogant. Wow, what an ungrateful ass # @ &!
Fast forward to today, we see that Intel decided to use Justin Long in a role reversal playing the kind of PC that now pokes fun at the weaknesses of Apple’s M1 MacBooks. Below, you’ll find Intel’s new series of anti-MacBook ads that are likely to hit the airwaves at some point.
Justin becomes real: have options | Intel
Justin Gets Real: Touch Screens | Intel
Justin becomes real: 2-in-1 flexibility | Intel
Justin Gets Real: PC Games | Intel
Justin becomes real: 3 monitors | Intel
With Apple planning to advance the M1 processor in 2021, it looks like the Intel CEO might have to keep up this ad campaign until it’s too embarrassing to continue.
