Instagram wants more people to see more reels with its latest update

Today, Instagram is announcing new changes to its app that put Reels and its Store features right in the face of users. The company announced “big changes” to its application. The Reels and Store tabs will now appear right at the front and center of the home page, in the navigation bar. The Post and Like buttons are moving to the upper right corner, next to the Facebook Messenger DMs button.

Reels is the company’s answer to TikTok. It is a sub-platform within Instagram where people can create short vertical videos. The camcorder is similar to the one on TikTok.

Instagram wants more people to see more reels with its latest update

We are now launching the Reels tab to be a kind of stage, a place where people can share their creativity with the world and have a chance to get ahead and find an audience.

Sounds familiar? The Instagram Store and Reels tabs aren’t even new. Before this update, you could find that the Shop and IGTV tabs were on the Search tab, and a tile that takes up most of the search tab has Reels.

With the Buy tab, we make it easy for you to get inspired by the creators you love, shop on Instagram, and support small businesses. You can find personalized recommendations, photos of editors selected by our @shop channel, videos that can be bought, new product collections and more …

Instagram recognizes that “the way people create and enjoy culture has changed, and the biggest risk for Instagram is not that we change too quickly, but that we do not change and become irrelevant.

Remember when IGTV launched and Instagram put an IGTV button on the home screen? Well it’s not there anymore because Instagram has figured out how to disguise IGTV videos in the main feed. If this move doesn’t have more Instagram users watching Reels, Instagram will likely figure out how to pair Reels between IG Stories. Even now, Instagram already slides a stack of reel thumbnails into its general feed in the same effort.
