When Instagram launched Reels in August, everyone saw it as a direct response to TikTok, clearly the fastest growing social network right now. Both platforms provide a similar service and the content creators took it as a low-effort, high-reward attempt to post a video in two different apps.
Starting today, Instagram decided to punish some of the laziest creators and influencers and announced that it will stop promoting watermarked Reels, something that can be seen on all TikTok videos.
Dos and Don’ts on Instagram Reels
In a lighthearted (but actually sarcastic) post via its Creators account, Instagram posted a few Tips for Getting Discovered via the Reels tab, a section that was introduced in November. Obviously, the platform remembers that the videos must be “entertaining and fun”, “inspiring” and, obviously, shot vertically.
What Instagram doesn’t want is for users to post blurry low-resolution videos, short clips recycled from other platforms, and those with a border around them. While they will not be promoted through Reels, they will still be available on the Profile tab and will appear in the Followers Feed. These social media entertainers should follow music from Instagram Music Library or original audio found on Reels.
