CAIRO – November 15, 2020: On Saturday, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi reviewed the pace of progress of construction of Egypt’s International City for the Olympic Games located in the New Administrative Capital.
“I proudly followed the number of achievements and progress of the work done by loyal Egyptian hands. I would like to salute the Egyptian workers for their outstanding effort and productive role in achieving reconstruction and construction,” President Sisi said at the social networks.
The presidential spokesman, Ambassador Bassam Rady, clarified that the city houses a stadium with a capacity for 90,000 fans and two covered arenas. One has a capacity of 15,000 fans while the other has a capacity of 8,000.
In addition, the city consists of complexes for swimming, horse riding, tennis, squash, various types of shooting, bow and arrow, and martial arts. It also has a hotel to house athletic teams, a hospital specialized in sports injuries, a parking lot and a mosque with a capacity of 500 faithful.
The objective of building such a city is to promote sports in Egypt and improve the country’s chances of hosting international tournaments and championships thanks to the modern infrastructure it offers.
The president affirmed the importance of sticking to the established schedule to complete the projects in the New Administrative Capital along with compliance with international standards and the application of preventive measures from COVID-19.
