iFixit, a wiki-based platform that guides readers on how to repair their tech devices, recently disassembled the Apple Watch 6, discovering a host of improvements added to the mold since the Apple Watch 5.
Beyond the watch’s new sensor, which measures blood oxygen levels, the device also comes with larger batteries than the previous-generation counterpart: the 44mm model comes with a 3.5 percent higher battery capacity; 40mm power cell, 8.5 percent larger. Despite its increased size, the battery life does not seem to change: 18 hours on a single charge, according to Apple.
Another highlight of the new watch is the Taptic Engine which has been made from 100% recycled tungsten and rare earth metals. Additionally, Force Touch has been completely removed from the watch, which iFixit claims allows for easier repair.
“We’re happy to see a fragile and damage-prone part removed, but saddened to see the final nail in the coffin of Apple’s ingenious pressure-sensitive display technology. We are torn apart, but we will call it a victory, ”notes iFixit.
