If your iPhone 12 battery is draining too fast, you are not alone – BGR

  • IPhone 12 owners report that their new phones’ battery drains rapidly, even when idle.
  • Hundreds of users on the Apple Communities forum say that the batteries in their iPhone 12 models are draining too fast even when they turn off 5G or activate low-power mode.
  • Apple has yet to address the issue, but it seems likely to be a software bug in iOS.

No product launch is complete without a bug or two, and according to hundreds of users on the Apple Communities forum, the new iPhone 12 models are experiencing a serious bug affecting battery life. As seen by 9to5Mac, a user on the forum started a thread about their iPhone 12 Pro battery draining much faster than they expected on October 25. In the weeks since, hundreds more have echoed this complaint.

Here’s what user Master26A said in his original post about accelerated battery drain on his iPhone 12 Pro:

I’m trying to find out if I have a faulty unit that I need to return or if there is a broader problem here. The iPhone 12 Pro is advertised to have a smaller battery than the iPhone 11 Pro, so I was expecting a slightly reduced battery life (which is fine, as the 11 Pro was excellent).

However, I find that the iPhone 12 Pro is running low when idle and with almost no background activity at a rate of 4%, which is much faster than my previous iPhone 11 Pro, and to be honest a drain. idle faster than I can actually remember. a new iPhone. The first instinct was to disable mobile data to see if it was a 5G thing, but I don’t really see any real difference doing that (which makes sense since I’ve been on Wifi 98% of the time since I got it).

No matter what I try, it seems to be going weirdly fast. Not yet [unusable] level or whatever the world ends, but I guess it’s kind of fishy. I check the battery report and it shows no real culprits, just a rapid decline for no clear reason.

If anyone can share their idle battery with 12 or 12 Pro I would really appreciate it.

Accelerated battery drain can occur for a number of reasons, especially in the early days of having a new iPhone, as you download your data from the cloud and spend more time checking out all the new features and functionality. That said, the fact that the user’s battery continued to discharge at an accelerated rate when idle was abnormal.

A mobile engineer chimed in days after the thread was posted to share a graph illustrating the difference between battery levels on an iPhone 12 and an iPhone 11. The curve of the iPhone 12 shows a rapid decline, even when in low mode. consumption is activated (the yellow section). The curve of the iPhone 11 seems much more typical:

As several users in the thread suggest, this is likely an iOS bug that Apple has yet to address. One user said they spoke to Apple Support about the problem and after running the diagnostics they couldn’t find anything wrong with the hardware. iOS 14.3 is currently being beta tested; maybe include a solution.
