Hyper Scape is Ubisoft’s new free entry to the Battle Royale genre, but, as the developer admits in a blog post, the game hasn’t lived up to expectations. The game was released in open beta in July and officially released on August 11. In the months since, Hyper Scape has not been able to cause a stir or compete with popular contemporary Battle Royale classics like Fortnite and PUBG.
However, the company plans to make major changes to the game to attract new players and retain existing ones. To make the environment more hospitable to new players, Ubisoft plans to lower the skill cap, provide more training activities, and diversify the game modes.
Ubisoft claims that the game’s learning curve is too difficult for newcomers and it is currently “too difficult to constantly target, track, and damage and eliminate players, especially on console.” With regard to game modes, the company also acknowledges that the main game mode, Crown Rush, is “relentless.” New aspects such as respawn systems and “deathmatch” style game modes will be added soon. Ubisoft wants to provide players with more styles and game modes that are different than what is currently offered, and the developer will reconsider how to organize Hyper Scape’s limited-time modes and how to better balance a player base divided into multiple modes.
As for the hope of retaining players, Ubisoft wants to set more medium and long-term goals. In Season 2, a player ranking system will be implemented. More progression systems will follow. Crossplay will also be implemented soon to provide a larger pool of players in the lobbies.
Ubisoft ended its overview of the future of Hyper Scape by stating, “To meet these pillars, we are restructuring our development team into a cell-based format, which we have seen our Rainbow Six: Siege colleagues use with fantastic results. These cells Interdisciplinary allow for greater focus and autonomy to tackle the work ahead. Each pillar has a dedicated development cell. “
In GameSpot’s Hyper Scape review, Jordan Ramée rated the game a 6/10 and stated, “Hyper Scape has some great ideas for changing key features and mechanics in a battle royale game, but so far it is not combined. into something satisfying. “
Hyper Scape is available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. You can check out the Hyper Scape Mid-Season Roadmap to see what’s new for the game in October.
