When a Trump administration decree prevented American companies from working with Huawei, the company was forced to abandon Google apps on new phones. But the company has managed to exploit a loophole: Huawei today announced the ‘New Edition’ P30 Pro, providing a minor specification boost to its latest flagship phone before the ban took effect.
In fact, this is the second time the company has re-released the P30, having done so last fall. So what’s new this time? Well, not really much. Basically, the company is modifying its 8GB / 256GB settings at a lower price (€ 749 / £ 699) ; The basic specs of the P30 Pro used to be 6GB / 128GB and cost € 1000 / £ 899.
Otherwise, you will still get the same Kirin 980, 4,200 mAh 40MP battery, quad camera system. Frankly, those specs still hold in 2020 at the new price. The P30 Pro still matches or exceeds many flagship camera releases afterward, and the 40W charge is faster than most of the competition.
Oh, and now it comes in a few new colors: Silver Frost, Aurora, and Black. So that’s something I guess.
If you want a “new” Huawei phone with Google Apps at a decent price, the P30 Pro is worth considering, but there is only a time when Huawei can re-launch a year-old device. Still, if you feel like it, the new device will be available in the UK starting June 3.
