Huawei Mate 40 series will arrive in two weeks against all odds

Smartphone companies launched phones like clockwork this year, despite setbacks and delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Huawei, however, had something else to worry about about the new coronavirus, and for a while, it almost seemed like the company wouldn’t make it this year. Despite all that, the beleaguered Chinese giant will put on its strongest face later this month when it presents its Mate 40 series, which could be its last “normal” Android phone.

In reality, Huawei’s phones haven’t been “normal” since last year, at least when it comes to international markets. But while the US, Europe and other regions felt the pain of the absence of the Google Play Store, it has continued to function as usual in China, where Huawei had unsurprisingly its highest sales figures.

However, the Huawei Mate 40 could be different. It could be Huawei’s last premium phone to run on its HiSilicon Kirin processor. Huawei may still be able to find some semiconductor or processor vendors to use in future P and Mate series phones, but it will be difficult to find one that can offer the same features and performance as the best chips on the mobile market.

Context alone could make the Huawei Mate 40 series interesting, but the company will surely do its best to sell the phones. Regardless of all the drama, Huawei’s phones arguably have the best cameras on the smartphone market and it will be interesting to see if it can really raise the bar even higher this year.

All eyes will be on Huawei on October 22, even perhaps those who are not interested in buying a Mate 40 or one of its variants. Being the last of its kind could also work in your favor, as collectors may want to get a snippet of mobile phone history before it becomes simply a footnote.
